5 Fat Burning Foods To Boost Your Metabolism

When your body converts foods and drinks into energy, this process is called as metabolism. This complex biochemical process combines oxygen with calories to release the energy required by your body to perform daily activities. Here are some foods and drinks which will rev up your metabolism.

Green Tea

Green tea is full of antioxidants called catechin (ECGC and polyphenol). This makes it easier for it to burn 70-100 extra calories in a day. There have been many studies and research that suggest the metabolism properties of the drink. According to a study, you can increase your calorie expenditure by 90 calories in a day by drinking 5-8 oz of green tea. This will help intensify the levels of fat oxidation and thermogenesis.

Cold Water

Many people are unaware of the fact that drinking cold water can be a great boost for metabolism. When you consume cold water, your body increases the temperature of the body by boosting metabolism. Water is not only helpful in keeping your metabolism high, it’s also a great natural appetite suppressant.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a whole grain which has been minimally processed and which retains all three parts of the grain: the germ, bran, and endosperm. Whole grains are complex carbs which take a little longer to break down. This gives a boost to your metabolism. Choosing a breakfast with complex carbs, such as whole-grain oats, can maximize your body’s ability to burn fat.

Grape Fruit

Grapefruit can act as a powerful tool to rev up your metabolism because it can reduce your insulin level. When insulin is high, your body starts storing fat and when insulin is low it helps burn fat. As grapefruit is high in fiber which requires more energy from your body to burn them, this will rev up your metabolism.

Hot Peppers

Most of the hot peppers contain an oily chemical called capsaicin which is found in the membrane surrounding seeds. This chemical is has proven properties to boost thermogenesis in the body. According to an article in the American Journal of Physiology in 2007, you need to intake hot peppers at a regular interval to rev up your metabolism.

There are other factors which determine your metabolism levels like your exercise, genetics, age, and gender. Consumption of the above foods will help boost your metabolism, but they cannot magically optimize your metabolism levels.
